Recycling Services

Recycling certain types of disposable waste, such as bottles, cans and newspapers, recovers valuable resources and reduces the "waste stream" of trash and garbage going into landfills. These materials can be then be made into new items for you.

Recycling is an essential element of the District's comprehensive solid waste management program. The Department of Public Works provides recycling services for residents of the District of Columbia whose trash is also collected by the Department. The city's recycling program is designed for convenience. Residents are issued a recycling container, and recycling pickups are scheduled to coincide with residential trash collections.
